My First Brazilian Wax Review

Yeah girl, I can’t believe I posted this either!

I did it. I got my first Brazilian wax. And what a ride it was. So, if you’re considering getting one, this is for you!

First things first, you have to be extremely comfortable with someone getting very up close and personal for 15 to 20 minutes. I would say it rivals OB/Gyn-level personal.

And I can guarantee so many thoughts and questions will run through your mind during your appointment, like:

How many lady parts has she seen? Is mine normal? Do you love this sh*t? Are you high right now? Do you ever get nervous?

But if you can get past all that, then Brazilian waxing might just be for you.

The Details of My First Wax:

My first Brazilian wax appointment was at the Pampered Peach South Tampa location. I got it for $21 on Groupon a few nights after Christmas. (There are lots of waxing deals on Groupon, so would recommend looking there first, then double checking reviews.) I don’t know what inspired me to do it. I think I was just curious about the whole waxing experience — and to see if it was as painful as everyone claimed it to be.

So, does a Brazilian wax hurt as much as people say?

Well, they were not bluffing. It hurt… A LOT. Mind you, this was after taking 3 acetaminophen (my mom didn’t have ibuprofen) and getting the numbing cream. Even still, each strip was absolute agony, and I wondered whether it was because she was somehow ripping my skin on accident. She wasn’t.

Of course, I’m exaggerating a little because some areas didn’t actually hurt at all (like near the inner thighs and more toward the rear, if you know what I mean.) But everywhere else — well, beauty IS pain.

Funny enough though, I couldn’t even remember that same pain three minutes after it was done. With no anticipation of another strip coming for at least a month, my mind chose to absolutely forget what it felt like. So, I wish I could paint you a better picture, but alas, I cannot.

The Drawbacks:

As a larger girl, I did have to hold my FUPA to make the area tauter. And sometimes I would forget and need a reminder, which was a little embarrassing.

The girl also kept asking me questions (probably to get my mind off the pain), but I didn’t like that. I actually just wanted to focus on my pain in silence.

Otherwise, I didn’t have many complaints.

The Results:

I wasn’t immediately “wowed” or anything, but overtime I’ve come to enjoy how it looks, feels, etc. However, I did notice a few missed spots, which was shocking, because as I said she was all up and through there.

Like everyone, my biggest worry after the fact was ingrown hairs. Personally, I forgot to exfoliate the night before. But with regular exfoliation afterwards, I haven’t really had an issue — except once. I won’t go into detail, but you have to make sure you exfoliate EVERYWHERE — seriously, every nook and cranny that got waxed needs a little scrub because certain spots are hell for an ingrown.

As for how long a Brazilian wax lasts? I would say a month, but even then it grows in splotchier? That may just be a me thing though.

Finally, is a Brazilian wax worth it?

All in all, I would say that a Brazilian is well worth the money and the temporary discomfort. If you like shaving, it’s less maintenance because the hair stays gone longer. And with summer right around the corner, I’m sure it will be a huge benefit and expand your bikini options.

My next appointment is fast approaching, and this time, I will be trying a new strategy: Dermoplast. TikTok says it’s a LIFESAVER for waxing. And because it’s usually given to women for the post-birth aftercare, it’s safe for sensitive areas. I’ll definitely be trying it at my next appointment and will let you know what I think!

Are you a proponent of waxing? Have you tried sugaring? Do you have any tips? Horror stories? Leave me a comment and let me know!
